Thanks to a friend, we’ve just discovered our new favorite place to grab a drink and watch the sun set into the sea. Young Bar is located on Cijin Island just across from the beach. The 4F location allows a wonderful view of the surrounding area. Young Bar has the potential to become one of the best spots in the city.

Atmosphere
I am sure the atmosphere here will change drastically once more people discover it, but for now it feels secluded. Whenever I have visited, there has been only one other group of people relaxing in the open air bar while hordes of people vie for a view of the sun on the beach below.

Of course, the view is the big draw to this bar. At the moment, everything else about it is mediocre. But, where else in Kaohsiung can you relax on a couch in a cabana and look out on a sea view?

In addition to the cabanas which can seat a large group of people, there are also tables and a few bar stools against the wall facing the sea.

What to Drink
In the interest of full disclosure, the people who work here really don’t know what they are doing. Ordering one of the cocktails listed on the English menu presents two problems. First, the bartender will probably take a long time to prepare your drink. This is especially true if more than one person in your party orders a cocktail. Second, the cocktail will probably arrive a heck of a lot stronger than you thought it would be. For example, a friend once ordered a whiskey and Coke. She received a glass of whiskey and a can of Coke. (If your aim is to get really drunk, this might actually be a positive aspect of the place.)

To keep things simple, you can order a non-alcoholic drink or a bottle of beer. A large bottle of Taiwan Beer is only $80NT while the strong cocktails will cost you $150NT.
